A Vathsala

BS (USA), MD (USA), FRCP (Edin), FAMS (S'pore) Prof. A. Vathsala is a renowned nephrologist and transplant specialist who has dedicated her career to advancing renal transplantation in Singapore. She earned her medical degree from Vanderbilt University and completed her training in Internal Medicine and Renal Medicine in Singapore. She further specialized in transplantation through training at the University of Houston and Cornell University.

Prof. A. Vathsala is a renowned nephrologist and transplant specialist who has dedicated her career to advancing renal transplantation in Singapore. She earned her medical degree from Vanderbilt University and completed her training in Internal Medicine and Renal Medicine in Singapore. She further specialized in transplantation through training at the University of Houston and Cornell University.

Prof. Vathsala has played a pivotal role in achieving numerous milestones in Singapore’s renal transplantation history, including the first spousal kidney transplant in 1991, blood group incompatible transplants, and the country’s first pancreas-kidney transplant. Under her leadership, Singapore’s renal transplant outcomes are recognized globally for their excellence.

In addition to her clinical work, she has a strong research focus on immunosuppression in transplantation, contributing to improved patient outcomes. She has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications and several book chapters. Prof. Vathsala is also the Director of the National University Centre for Organ Transplantation at the National University Hospital, receiving international referrals for her expertise.
